New Multi Use Games Area for Alne

25/09/2024

The residents of Alne and the surrounding villages in North Yorkshire now have a superb MUGA facility within the recreation ground. This has replaced the much loved but hopelessly dilapidated structure, and is part of the vision to revitalise and regenerate sport within the area.

The new MUGA was completed in only 6 weeks and has new fencing and a new playing surface which is marked out for 5-a-side football and basketball. The area is floodlit and is thought to be amongst one of the best outdoor facilities for basketball within the York Area.

The Recreation Ground is managed by the Alne Parish Leisure Association (APLA), a charity that supports and manages recreation and leisure facilities within the locality.

The project, has only been possible because of a generous grant from FCC Communities Foundation, along with local fundraising by APLA.

Ian McCrae, project coordinator for APLA believes that the new facility will transform the way in which the Recreation Ground will be used by giving day and evening access for Football, Basketball, Keep-fit and other sporting activities in a safe and pleasant environment. He says “It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to a substantial increase in the use of the facility now work is complete".
