Arkwright Walk is situated in the Meadows, an inner-city area of dense housing in Nottingham, comprising a mixture of flats, terraces, and new family homes. The existing play area had been installed 15 years previously and was now dated and in poor condition. The council undertook consultation with the residents and community organisations, to feed into the design and development planning to ensure local needs were met and applied to FCC Communities Foundation to co-fund a new and exciting play facility.

The result is an exciting and dynamic space themed play area which 12 new pieces of equipment which create a whole new theme and purpose to the site whilst presenting fun educational information on the ground. These visuals combine with two new futuristic multi-play units and individual play items for that offer value for a range of ages. The basketball court opens the space to teenagers encouraging physical movement and socialisation. New seating and picnic benches increase family use and promote natural surveillance, reducing vandalism and anti-social behaviour. The safety surfacing was also completely overlaid to ensure the space continues to meet the community’s needs into the future.
