The need for the project was identified and initiated by parents in the village who were travelling a 40-mile round trip to access the nearest track, parents then had to sit and wait to transport kids home. A portable pump track event was held by King's Cliffe & Area Community Sports Project prior to the application being submitted for funding which gave them the opportunity to talk to the kids about their needs and ensure these were considered during the design stage.

The Sports Project approached FCC Communities Foundation for the final £25,000 to pay for the track surfacing and drainage. This new facility can cater for bikes, scooters, skateboards, and inline skates due to the tarmac surfacing.
