Not just for the kids

Project Name
Jubilee Fields Inclusivity Project
Project Type
FCC Community Action Fund - Community
Our Funding
£48,070
Total Project Cost
£52,088

The project aim was to ensure the equipment at Jubilee Fields was inclusive to all, and considered how wheelchair users would access the equipment without the need to transfer from their chair. This was important to ensure everyone, including those living with sensory or mobility impairments, were able to play together at ease.

Firstly, the grant replaced a very old, well-loved and popular play unit which was in a poor condition. The unit had no accessibility for children in wheelchairs or any adaptations for children with sensory impairments. This meant families with children who had additional needs were excluded from enjoying the play area. The grant also paid for a new fully inclusive see-saw which would enable wheelchair users and non-wheelchair users to play together at the same time.

The project has been a resounding success. The site was inundated with visitors on the first weekend and the feedback has been fantastic. The adjacent Additional Needs school intend to use Jubilee Field regularly so students can enjoy the new equipment and, an unexpected benefit, local care home residents, including those in wheelchairs or living with dementia, also visit and enjoy the green space and equipment, which they had never previously done.
