New children’s play area and outdoor gym in Pleck Park officially open

12/09/2025

Residents in Pleck will benefit from the opening of a new £250,000 play area and outdoor gym in Pleck Park, Walsall.

The project has been funded by Walsall Council and supported by a £60,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects, through the Landfill Communities Fund.

A new children’s play area, along with a new outdoor gym, have been installed at the park, and are now open to the public.

The play area features a range of equipment including toddler and junior swings, a roundabout and wheelchair accessible roundabout, two castle climbing frames, sensory play panels and more. The project has also seen the old play area repurposed into a dog-friendly user area.

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council, said, “I’m delighted this project has been delivered. We now have a park we can enjoy and be proud of. “I’d like to thank FCC Communities Foundation for providing funding, helping to make this programme become a reality."

A consultation on the play area design was carried out, ensuring that children’s views were heard and informed the project.

Pleck Park is located in Montfort Road, Pleck, WS2 9DE, and was once part of the Bescot Hall estate. It was created as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the First World War. It is managed by Walsall Council with support from the Friends of Pleck Park. Facilities include cricket pitches, a bowling green, a children’s play area, a multi-use game area and a Pavilion.
