New Inclusive Playground Takes Shape in Digby

12/10/2026

Work is now underway on a new £87,000 playground in Digby, replacing the village's ageing play area and creating a modern, inclusive space for local children and families.

Construction began in late September following funding support from FCC Communities Foundation and is expected to take around a month to complete. The project is being delivered by Creative Play.

The new playground has been designed to provide a wider range of play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities. It will include dedicated spaces for younger and older children, alongside accessible equipment to ensure as many children as possible can enjoy the new facility.

Councillor Karen Groves of Digby Parish Council said: "This is something we've been working towards for a long time. As a small Parish Council, replacing our ageing playground simply wasn't something we could fund on our own, so securing support from FCC Communities Foundation is fantastic news for the village. Their funding has made it possible for us to provide an inclusive play space that will benefit local children and families for many years to come."

The new playground will feature two complementary play areas, including a fenced space for younger children and a more adventurous zone incorporating a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and adventure trail.

A bespoke Jigsaw Tower, designed specifically for Digby Parish Council, will be the centrepiece of the site. The timber play structure includes climbing features and a slide, as well as under-platform seating that provides a quieter space within the play area.

The project has been developed in response to the changing needs of the village. Digby's population has grown significantly in recent years and the existing playground no longer met local demand. Creating a more inclusive environment was a key priority, ensuring children of all abilities have access to high-quality play opportunities close to home.

Located adjacent to the village primary school, the new playground is also expected to become an important community hub, providing a place where local families can meet, socialise and spend time together.

Cheryl Raynor, Grant Manager at FCC Communities Foundation, said: "FCC Communities Foundation is delighted to support this new playground for Digby. Projects like this help create accessible, sustainable community spaces that bring people together and provide lasting benefits for local families. We are pleased to have helped fund a facility that will give children of all ages and abilities the opportunity to play, socialise and enjoy the outdoors for many years to come."

Digby Parish Council has thanked FCC Communities Foundation for its support in helping bring the project to life and looks forward to welcoming residents to an official opening event once construction is complete.
