Oxford Museum of Natural History one step closer to new displays
31/07/2020
The 12 old display cabinets have been dismantled and removed from the Museum, one by one and the first new case has been received and installed. The remaining 9 cases have been manufactured and are ready to be shipped to the Museum. Installation of the last 9 cases is expected to take place by the end of August 2020.
The outline master planning of the re-display has been completed which involved a series of workshops and discussions with design consultants. The new showcases will feature imaginative thematic displays, offering visitors thought-provoking narratives around the sciences of the natural environment.
The Museum has chosen the theme of 'Life, As We Know It'. The new displays will include beautiful presentations of the diversity of life, and address the importance and fragility of biodiversity and human impact on the environment.
The overall project is expected to cost in the region of £500,000 with FCC Environment providing £250,000 towards the cost of the new cases.
