Lighting up the darker nights!

20/10/2025

A park in Easingwold is getting a lighting upgrade to make evening exercise safer and more accessible.

As we get ready to mark the end of British summertime, signalling earlier sunsets and shorter days, a lighting upgrade at Millfields park couldn't have been timed better. The new lighting will improve access to its jogging track, outdoor gym, and skate park during darker hours, allowing residents to use the facilities safely in the evenings.

Colin Fletcher, chairman of Easingwold Running Club, said: "This project has been years in the making and we’re thrilled to see it finally come to life.

"The lights will make a huge difference – whether you’re out for a jog, using the gym, or just enjoying the park after sunset."

The scheme has received funding from community fundraising and external grants.

In addition to a grant of £20,000 from FCC Communities Foundation the Town Council worked hard to secure funding from the following, North Yorkshire Sport £10,000, Radfield Home Care York and Rural £5,000, Easingwold Running Club £3,650 and England Athletics £1,000.

Ed Gill, director of Radfield Home Care York and Rural, said: "We’re proud to support this project with a £5,000 donation, which reflects our commitment to improving health, wellbeing and independence in local communities."
