Residents and community groups in Hyndburn, Lancashire are set to benefit from improved cultural and creative facilities thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
The funding has been awarded to Hyndburn Leisure and will be used to install a permanent stage in the main hall at Mercer Hall, develop a dedicated recording studio space, and purchase event seating to increase the hall’s capacity. These improvements will significantly enhance the building’s ability to host performances, events and creative activity for the local community.
Mercer Hall, located in Hyndburn, is currently undergoing a phased programme of redevelopment to repurpose the historic building as a vibrant, multi-use community venue and will reopen in January 2026. The new investment will form part of the second phase of capital works and will support a wider range of events, including theatre, live performance, music production and community-led activities.
Lyndsey Sims, Chief Executive at Hyndburn Leisure, believes the funding will make a significant difference to the local area.
She said: “Mercer Hall is a much-loved community building, and this additional investment will allow us to expand what the venue can offer, from live performances and community events to creative opportunities through the new recording studio. We’re extremely grateful to FCC Communities Foundation for their support and look forward to seeing these improvements take shape over the coming months.”
Hyndburn Leisure hopes that the second phase of improvements at Mercer Hall will be ready for use during 2026, supporting a growing programme of events and activities and helping to secure the long-term future of the building as an accessible and inclusive community space.
Further phases of investment are planned to continue the transformation of Mercer Hall, ensuring it remains a key cultural and community asset for Hyndburn for many years to come.
