Padbury Village Hall celebrates a brand new roof

02/05/2025

Padbury Village Hall, a much loved and well used community facility has recently completed their new roof project. Constant leaking was rotting timbers and slowly destroying the structure. The old roof had become a liability. It leaked whenever there was heavy rain, which dripped through the ceiling. The committee said "they were lucky that the ceiling didn’t collapse!"

The committee were also concerned about the lovely old wooden floor in the hall which was slowly becoming damaged by the leaking roof. "We had to be very diligent to make sure we caught all the drops of rain to minimise the damage to the interior."

A committee member went on to say "You can feel the difference in the temperature of the hall already. There was no insulation in the roof before and any heating in the hall used to disappear through the roof. It was built in 1840, and although the roof has possibly been replaced, it’s never been insulated. So, already economically and environmentally it’s so much better."

The Village Hall is a vital part of village life. It is a hub where the villagers meet, socialise, enjoy activities, exercise, partake of games, clubs, theatre, dances, weddings, parties and so much more. The new roof will make such a difference to all these activities.

FCC Communities Foundation provided a grant of £27,779.40 to help the Village Hall meet their target of £35,149.20 to complete the work. The work was completed in April 2024 and it looks absolutely fantastic.
