Refurbished play park for older children opens in Whitaker Park

03/10/2025

A newly refurbished play area has opened to the public in Rossendale.

Located in Whitaker Park, the new play area includes an eight-metre play structure, slides, climbing blocks, a double cableway, a pendulum swing, picnic areas, seating, and accessible pathways.

The play area has been designed for older children.

Cllr Liz McInnes, portfolio holder for communities, housing, health and wellbeing at Rossendale Borough Council, said: "We are thrilled to see the new play area completed.

"It offers children a fantastic place to explore, play, and challenge themselves outdoors.

"We look forward to enhancing the toddler facilities next, providing even more opportunities for our youngest visitors to enjoy Whitaker Park."

The play zone is part of a planned upgrade under the Whitaker Park Masterplan.

Improving the play area for younger children will be the focus of the next phase of the project, with work expected to be completed by spring 2026.

The new play park was delivered in partnership with The Friends of Whitaker Park, a sub-group of Civic Pride Rossendale, and installed by play equipment specialists Kompan.

Funding for the project came from the Lancashire Environmental Fund, FCC Communities Foundation, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
