Work Begins on Upgraded Sports Courts in Glasgow

06/10/2025

Work is officially underway to upgrade the sports courts in Victoria Park, Glasgow, marking a significant step forward in providing high-quality, free-to-use facilities for the local community. The redevelopment will deliver two dual-use basketball and netball courts, designed to encourage more people to get active and enjoy sport in a welcoming outdoor environment.

The Victoria Park Courts project, in part funded by a £32,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, is expected to be completed by October. The new courts will be available for public use and will support both casual play and organised community activities.

Martin Wright, Glasgow Life, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s progress:

“We are so pleased to see this project reaching its exciting conclusion. The local community has supported the development of the courts from the beginning, and we look forward to welcoming them soon. We are extremely grateful for the funding FCC Communities Foundation has given us and are thrilled that the local community will benefit from the new facilities.”

The £120k project has received additional funding from Glasgow Life, Sportscotland Sports Facilities Fund, The National Lottery and Glasgow City Council (Developer Contribution and Area Partnership).

A steering group comprising Victoria Park Community Trust, Glasgow City Council, Basketball Scotland and Glasgow Netball Association collaborated with Glasgow Life to shape the vision for the courts. This group will continue to work together to deliver a vibrant programme of activities for the local community once the courts are open.
