Access improvements to Millom War Memorial

10/10/2019

Prior to the project the pathways and steps leading up to the memorial were in a terrible state of repair and a dangerous trip hazard to anyone visiting the site. Over the years Millom Town Council have patched up the cracks and repaired the damage to try and minimise the risk of accidents but this method had now run its course and it was time for a full scale facelift.

The project cost £14,900.00 and was funded entirely with a grant from FCC Communities Foundation. The work has included new reinforced coloured concrete pathways and steps leading up to the Memorial.

Millom War Memorial is a focal point and is situated on the gateway into town. It is enjoyed in a number of ways from those simply taking time out to enjoy their lunch to schoolchildren meeting friends.

Community members and visitors now have an enhanced area to visit and pay respects to the fallen war heroes, and where they can gather safely for the many events hosted by the Royal British Legion and Royal Naval Association.

The area will be maintained (pathways, steps, gardens) by the Friends of Millom War Memorials and Millom Town Council.
