Funding approved for the redevelopment of Wilford Church Halls

18/06/2019

Children and Adults in and around Wilford are set to benefit from a much-improved community space thanks to FCC Communities Foundation, Carter’s Educational Foundation and local fundraising efforts.

The Church Hall Committee have been working hard to raise funds to get the project to the point it could be supported by community grants. Supported by the Luncheon club, St Wilfrid’s Church, Co-op Community fund, generous individuals and several fundraising events they have raised the necessary funding for phase 1 of the project.

This first stage is focused on improvements to the Benjamin Carter hall.

Thanks to FCC Communities Foundation which has awarded the project £99,953.00 and a substantial donation from Carter’s Educational Foundation, the back hall will benefit from accessible entrance ways and toilets, new kitchen facilities, plus efficient insulation, windows, heating and storage. Through consultation with the community and regular users, these works will ensure this building is fit for use by future generations. Work is due to start on the 13th May and be completed by the end of September 2019.

Additional fundraising and grant applications will continue to allow the second phase of the project, involving redevelopment of the front hall, to become a reality.

Alice Veldtman, Secretary of the Halls Committee, believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area. She says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Wilford. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation and Carters Educational Foundation have awarded us this funding and we can move forwards with the project. We’re really looking forward to our revamped hall, and the lasting benefit this will bring to the community.”
