A Pause in the Story!

30/09/2025

A Pause in the Story: The Story Museum reopens following a short break for essential planned maintenance.

Every great storyteller knows the power of a pause in the tale, which is why The Story Museum took a short, two-week break for planned maintenance earlier this month. The Museum’s shop and café was also temporarily closed to allow for painting, decorating and stock-take.

Meanwhile, scaffolding has been put in place so that the Museum’s roof repairs can get underway. The roof repairs project is being funded by the FCC Communities Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Headley Trust, Theatres Trust, Foyle Foundation, and other supporters who wish to remain anonymous.

Sarah Fussell, the Museum’s Director of Operations and Enterprise says;

‘We are delighted to have received the necessary funding to enable work to begin on our roof. You’ll notice scaffolding has gone up so that work can get underway, and it will remain in place for a few weeks whilst the roof is being repaired.’

‘It was important for us to be able to take this time to ensure all our galleries are in great condition for our visitors, and carry out the planned maintenance on our much-loved building’
‘Whilst the scaffolding has gone up, in preparation for our roof repairs, our team was busy behind the scenes, carrying out maintenance, deep cleaning and other tasks essential to the continued smooth running of the museum.’

Conrad Bodman, who has recently been appointed CEO and Director of The Story Museum says, ‘We are hugely grateful to our funders: The Garfield Weston Foundation, Headley Trust, Theatres Trust, Foyle Foundation and most recently, the FCC Communities Foundation, as well as others who wish to remain anonymous. Their generosity will enable us to get our roof fixed so we can continue our work to share stories with everyone.’

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming visitors back to our wonderful galleries, including our recently launched Story Arcade, a new interactive gallery which explores the digital storytelling realms of video games.’

‘Meanwhile, we’re excited about our autumn season which includes Crick Crack Club storytelling for grown-ups, the Tiny Ideas Festival for the very young, and in early October, our Access Friendly Day.’
