Funding Approved for Play Park Upgrade in Wigtown.
08/01/2026
Young people in Wigtown are set to get improved play facilities at Lightlands thanks to a £37,609.49 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
The money will be used to upgrade the play area at the Lightlands Park in Wigtown.
Councillor Andy Ferguson, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee said:
“This project will provide a real boost to the people of Wigtown. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to the park project taking shape over the next few months. The Lightlands Park Initiative, supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council officers, has worked for several years to secure plans and funding for this project.”
Shona Herries, Chairperson of Lightlands Park Initiative added:
“We are delighted to receive FCC funding, which has enabled us to finally make a start to Lightlands Park redevelopment after years of fundraising and planning. We look forward to our new inclusive play space being ready for use in Easter 2026.”
The project will add a variety of new play equipment to Lightlands Park, including wheelchair-accessible options, equipment for older children, and features for younger users. A new access path and accessible seating will also be installed.
It is anticipated that work will start on the development in February 2026.
