Higham Village Hall re-opens after major refurbishment

Higham Village Hall, a Grade II listed community building, has been revitalised following an extensive refurbishment programme.
The renewed facility was officially unveiled at a community launch event on Saturday 25 April, which brought together residents, supporters and project partners to celebrate the transformation. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the improved building, a preview of a promotional film documenting the refurbishment, and afternoon tea.
The works have significantly enhanced the hall’s functionality and accessibility. Improvements include the addition of a new rear storage extension, fully reconfigured and accessible toilet facilities, and a larger, modern kitchen designed to better support community use.
Graham Fitton, Treasurer of the Higham Village Hall Management Committee, praised the team behind the project, saying:
“We can’t speak highly enough of Kevin and his team. They have been absolutely brilliant throughout. What could have been a really disruptive project has been handled smoothly and professionally, and the regular users of the hall have been incredibly patient and accommodating.”
As part of the celebration, visitors were also invited to share photographs and memories from the building’s earlier life as a school, helping to capture the hall’s rich heritage and connection to the local community.
Penny Horne, Grant Manager at FCC Communities Foundation, said:
“We’re very pleased to support this project. It’s exactly the kind of improvement the Landfill Communities Fund was set up to achieve — helping to protect and enhance vital community spaces for future generations. We look forward to seeing the hall continue to thrive at the heart of the community.”
