Its warm and toasty inside now!

The Kingstanding community can now meet in a warm facility again thanks to £16,074.74 of funding from FCC Communities Foundation.

When New Heights Charity designed and built its new St Johns Centre at 124 Warren Farm Road every effort was made to make it as ‘carbon neutral’ and ‘economic to run’ as possible. It has solar panels, triple glazed windows, rain water capture and automated ventilation systems.

When the heating system began to break-down in the last 6 months trustees and volunteers were worried about the impact on activities supporting children, families, older and disabled people during this winter. They are hugely indebted to FCC Communities Foundation for providing a generous grant to fund replacement of an obsolete heating system with a brand new Ground Source Heat Exchange Unit which provides heating for the whole building by extracted heat from water pumped underground. The new system now even provides hot water for use in the community kitchen and throughout St Johns Centre.

Sean Flynn (Chair of New Heights Charity) commented: “This use of sustainable energy is something which has always been close to the heart of our small charity which, through our volunteer-led activities support over 800 people each year. This generous grant will allow us to continue with our work supporting the local community. Our work covers- youth work, a playgroup for pre-school children, supporting victims of domestic abuse, offering benefits advice to all, and organising meals and activities for older and/or disabled people, as well as a range of other activities.

We would like to express our thanks to FCC Foundation and also to the installers MJS Energy.”
