New facilities for all ages are transforming Shelford Playing Field into a vibrant community hub.
A new inclusive play area has officially opened in the heart of Shelford, transforming local facilities and creating a welcoming space for residents of all ages to play, exercise and connect.
Located at Shelford Playing Field on West Street, the new development features a range of equipment designed to appeal to teenagers, alongside inclusive play facilities that are accessible for people with disabilities of all ages. New outdoor gym equipment has also been installed, offering opportunities for children, young people, adults and older residents to stay active.
The space has been further enhanced with additional seating areas, providing inviting spots for visitors to relax, socialise or enjoy the surroundings, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
The project was made possible through a partnership of funders. Rushcliffe Borough Council awarded Shelford Parish Council £35,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), with additional support from FCC Communities Foundation, the Shelford Millennium Fund, Nottinghamshire County Council and the Parish Council.
The new facilities were officially opened with a community celebration attended by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Abby Brennan, alongside parish councillors, ward member Cllr Debbie Soloman and local residents.
Cllr Brennan said:
“We’re really pleased to support this meaningful project through UKSPF. It was fantastic to see residents of all ages at the opening, clearly enjoying the new accessible play and gym equipment.
“This project responds directly to local demand, creating a welcoming, multi-functional space that encourages physical activity, social interaction and time spent outdoors. Shelford Playing Field has been transformed into an inclusive, safe and attractive area for everyone to enjoy.”
Shelford Parish Council’s Cllr Lee Smith added:
“This is a fantastic investment in the health and wellbeing of our community. We’re delighted to see this excellent new accessible and inclusive equipment in place, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get active outdoors.
“The Playing Field is a vital shared space for the village, and these improvements make it an even more valuable and inclusive place for residents to play, exercise and come together. We’re very grateful to Rushcliffe Borough Council, FCC Communities Foundation and all our funding partners for making this project possible.”
