New Skate Park Opens at Limewood Fields Park, Chester

Chester now has a new skate and wheels area at Limewood Fields in Newton thanks to a £100,000 grant from funding body FCC Communities Foundation.

The money, awarded by FCC Communities Foundation together with match funding secured from Cheshire West and Chester Council has been used to create a new skate and wheels area in the park.

The new area was completed ahead of schedule in time for the school summer holidays and has been a huge success.

The celebration of the new facility formed part of the Kingsway and Newton Residents Association (KANRA) family fun day on the 25 August. The skate park was officially opened by the Sherriff of Chester.

The design of the park came together from a number of consultations and planning sessions with key stakeholders including local skate users, The Boneyard, Council officers, ward councillors, KANRA, NewScene and Sanctuary Housing.

Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins, said: "The need for a central skate/wheels facility in Chester was completed ahead of schedule and meant that the community has an important addition to our green space, play and youth area facilities bringing both health and wellbeing benefits. I would like to pass on my thanks to all project partners who have worked tirelessly to realise this initiative, especially the representatives of the skate user group and Kingsway and Newton Residents Association."

Richard Smith, Senior Grant Manager for FCC Communities Foundation said: "It's always great to see a project we have funded reach completion. I called in at Lime Wood Fields last week, it looks fantastic and was packed with bikes, scooters and skateboards. This is a brilliant example of a dedicated group working with the Council to create a facility which will be used and enjoyed by people all over Chester. I am delighted that it was completed in time for the summer holidays."

One young skateboarder at the event commented: "It's the best thing ever and it's stopped me spending all day on my Xbox, I love it!"
