Springfield Park play areas refurbishment

12/09/2022

Sandiacre Parish Council is delighted to announce that the play area on Springfield Park, off Sandringham Road has now been fully refurbished with funding of £60,000 from FCC Communities Foundation.

For the official opening, Parish Council Chairman and County Councillor, Cllr Wayne Major was joined by a group of fellow Councillors, together with FCC Grant Manager, Cheryl Raynor and Chris Green, Deputy Head Teacher of Longmoor Primary School who brought along a small group of children to try out the new equipment. Sienna, Jayden, Poppy and Thomas had a great time cutting the ribbon and using the new equipment, which provided lots of fun.

The project saw both play areas refurbished with equipment for all ages and abilities, including items for toddlers in the smaller play area, such as a play castle with slide and a selection of rockers. The bigger play area now includes a large multi-tower with deck and slides, supernova balancing ring, basket swing and a number of picnic benches for families.

Cllr Major said, ‘We are all thrilled with the new equipment for Springfield Park. It has been a long time coming, but so well worth it. The new play areas are of real benefit to the community and will cater for a wide range of ages. The park can be enjoyed by everyone and it is evident that more children and families are using the new facilities. It’s brilliant that FCC has awarded Sandiacre Parish Council this money. The whole project has been a great success’.

Parish Council Vice-Chairman, Cllr Steve Bilbie said: ‘Our vision for the park is to offer great play facilities and encourage an interest in wildlife and biodiversity. Improvements to develop the whole park will continue over the coming year with the introduction of benches and daffodil planting undertaken by volunteers.

Work to refurbish the play areas will make a significant difference to the lives of families living in the area and it will create a park we can all be very proud of’.

Michelle Bloor, Clerk to Sandiacre Parish Council believes the new facilities will ensure the park is a more welcoming and appealing place for families and children. Everyone can feel welcome to enjoy the extensive green open space and take advantage of modern and attractive new play equipment that provides lots of interaction.

She said: ‘I’m delighted this project was chosen by FCC for investment and Kompan, the supplier and installer, have made the new play area a very special place and brought it back to life. The Parish Council has supported the project and £60,000 will make a real difference to the facilities on offer and we are all looking forward to seeing the end results and children and parents having a really great time’’.
