The Princess Royal visits Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park Trust was delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal on Friday 16 October 2020 to enjoy a tour of the historic World War Two museum and heritage site, and to meet with staff, volunteers and funders including a representative from FCC Environment and FCC Environment Communities Foundation.

HRH spent around over an hour at Bletchley Park meeting with representatives from every department, hearing about how the site reopened to visitors and learning about the new COVID-secure measures in place. The Princess visited the Mansion, restored codebreaking huts, and immersive exhibitions.

Iain Standen, CEO of Bletchley Park Trust said: “It was wonderful to welcome HRH The Princess Royal on site today. She was interested to meet everyone who has worked so hard this year to reopen Bletchley Park and embrace the challenges and changes we have faced in 2020.”

Bletchley Park Trust is a registered charity, heritage attraction and independent museum, open daily, whose mission is to attract, engage and educate people from all over the world in order to inspire them with Bletchley Park’s crucial role in World War Two. As an independent charity, it relies on income from visitors, Friends and supporters to secure the long-term future of the site.

Earlier this week, Bletchley Park announced it had received almost £1.5m in vital funding to support its work over the next two years, in light of the severe financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bletchley Park received confirmation of funding from FCC Communities Foundation in 2019 for the next phase of development creating new exhibition spaces, a Collection Centre and a Learning facility, as part of a long-standing ambition to preserve and enhance Bletchley Park as a world-class visitor attraction. This will be the first time these buildings will be open as part of the sites’ heritage offer, providing a unique opportunity to share more untold stories and shed light on this crucial part of British World War Two history.
