Thrapston Plaza funders pay a visit re-vamped 1930’s cinema
21/06/2019
Representatives from FCC Communities Foundation and FCC Environment joined local councillors at the refurbished Thrapston Plaza today to celebrate the regeneration of this historic building with a rich heritage, dating back to its construction as a cinema in the 1930’s.
The FCC Community Action Fund has provided a grant of £48,225.02 for the installation of a new eco-friendly air conditioning system in the main hall, foyer and committee room, together with a complete overhaul of the committee room, a new wooden floor in the main hall, carpeting on the landing, stairs and in the foyer and new upstairs toilet facilities. The works have resulted in a refreshed, more welcoming and sustainable building.
Richard Smith, Senior Grant Manager for FCC Communities Foundation said: ‘It’s fantastic to see first-hand the difference the funding makes to local communities. Thrapston Plaza is a unique building which is hugely well used and loved by the community and I am really pleased to be able to show our colleagues at FCC what can be achieved through the scheme.
Linda Marshall, Town Clerk and RFO said “ The refurbishment of the Plaza has provided Thrapston with a community hall that is versatile, stylish, modern, well equipped and fits a multitude of uses. From the performing arts to displays, exercise groups, concerts, workshops, meetings, film shows, children’s play groups, parties and even wedding receptions – the Plaza can host them all.
The new built in facilities such as state of the art sound and lighting, cinema size projection screen, fully equipped kitchen, changing rooms and board room mean that users do not need to bring equipment with them. It is all provided in situ!
The lovely décor, light fittings, climate control, flooring and new toilet facilities all add to the efficiency and functionality of the hall and also add a touch of glamour! It is an asset that Thrapston residents can be proud of.”
