19/04/2024

Building work is under way to create 2 new floodlit netball courts for sports enthusiasts of all ages at Earlsdon Rugby Club, Coventry.

The Earlsdon Highway Netball Club courts are a step closer now that the groundworks have begun at the site on Mitchell Avenue.

The project, which is being funded by a combination of a £92,149 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, plus a £75,000 grant from HS2’s Community Environment Fund, and a Crowdfunder campaign with match funding from the Sport England ‘Places and Spaces’ initiative, will provide much needed netball facilities in the local area, once it is open in June.

Martin Rourke, Treasurer of Earlsdon Rugby Club says “This is an exciting project for Earlsdon Rugby Club, as we welcome Earlsdon Highway Netball Club into the fold. The development of the new courts will ensure that our netball section have a permanent base here at Earlsdon RFC. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this stage and we’re all glad to see ‘spades in the ground’ and can now make preparations for our future together.”

Heidi Hughes, Chairperson of Earlsdon Highway Netball Club is excited that the project is starting to take shape. She says: “It’s great to see our vision for this vital club and community facility moving closer to reality. We are extremely grateful for the funding FCC Communities Foundation, HS2 and Sport England have given us and we’re looking forward to opening to the public.”
